TCS ILP Training after Completing

My 6-Week ILP Training Journey 🚀

Hey everyone! 👋

Earlier, I shared my Week 1 experience of ILP training. Now that I’ve completed all 6 weeks, I thought it’d be fun to take you through my journey—the ups, the downs, and everything in between! 😃

🏷️ Domain Allocation – Where Did I Land?

I was assigned to the Java domain (woohoo! 🎉). That meant I got a full 6-week training in Java, Servlets, JSP, and JDBC. Others who joined with me in ILP (called associates) got placed in different domains like ITIS, ITIS with CSP, and more.

💡 How do they assign domains?
They map you based on your IPA score (Initial Proficiency Assessment) and the business requirements. So, it's not in your hands—just luck and scores. 🍀

📅 Week 1: The "Chill" Start 😎

The first week was pretty relaxed. We mostly:
✅ Sat through BizSkill (Business Skills) sessions 🧑‍💼
✅ Attended some mandatory courses 🖥️
✅ Tried to make new friends (because networking is key! 🤝)

Nothing too technical yet, just getting settled in.

📅 Week 2: Technical Training Begins 💻

The second week started to pick up the pace.

💼 Still had BizSkill sessions, but now with technical training.
🖥️ UNIX/Linux was taught in just ONE session (yes, one! 😱).
⏳ Each session lasted around 45 minutes to 1 hour—super fast-paced!

🔹 They only covered the most important commands, which was great for absolute beginners.
🔹 But if you wanted to clear the PRA, you had to study separately using YouTube or other online resources. 📚

For me, it felt like a waste of time because I already knew UNIX, and sometimes:
📌 They either taught too slowly 😴
📌 OR rushed through topics at lightning speed ⚡

💡 By the end of the week, they had already completed:
✅ UNIX/Linux
✅ SQL
✅ HTML & CSS
✅ JavaScript
✅ Agile Methodologies

ALL in just one week! 🤯

📅 Week 3: Java Begins – My Comfort Zone 😏

Finally, my favorite—Java training! ☕

🔹 Since I already knew Java, I used this time to explore advanced concepts.
🔹 They gave us our first project—a console-based Vehicle Insurance System. 🚗📜

Project Requirements:
💻 Complete CRUD operations (Create, Read, Update, Delete).
📝 Submit the project on time (deadlines matter!).
✅ Pass PRA 1—which I successfully did! 🎉

This week was smooth sailing for me. 😎

📅 Week 4: Java Backend – The Real Challenge 😵

This is where things got hard. 😨

🔹 We moved on to Servlets, JSP, and JDBC.
🔹 I had zero experience in these and found the training material insufficient. 📖
🔹 Even YouTube tutorials were limited.

So, what did I do? 🤔
✔️ Learned through online websites 💻
✔️ Used ChatGPT for doubts 🤖
✔️ Watched multiple YouTube videos 🎥

At first, it felt like reading an alien language 🛸👽, but slowly, I started understanding it.

📅 Week 5: PRA 2 & The Group Project—The Most Intense Week! 🔥

😨 PRA 2 was extremely difficult—totally different from what I expected. I failed! 💀

And just when I thought it couldn't get worse...
💥 They announced a Group Project, which was mandatory to clear ILP and get the release letter.

Project Details: 🏗️

We had to build a full-stack application using:
🎨 Frontend: HTML, CSS, JS
⚙️ Backend: Servlets, JSP, JDBC
🗄️ Database: MySQL

😬 My Role in the Project – A Tough Ride!

I wasn't confident in backend development, so I requested my team’s Scrum Master (Team Lead) to assign me:
✔️ Registration Page 📝
✔️ Login Page 🔑
✔️ Dashboard 📊

At first, I struggled big time! 😵
🔹 Backend connections were tricky.
🔹 Debugging took forever.
🔹 My brain was fried from constant trial and error. 🧠🔥

But, after multiple sleepless nights, I:
✔️ Successfully built the full login, register, and dashboard functionality! 🚀
✔️ Helped debug other teammates’ code too.
✔️ Worked till 8 PM daily and even on Saturdays.

The biggest issue? Integrating everyone’s code into one project! 😖

📅 Week 6: Final Review – Stress Level 💯

After much effort, we finally integrated everything and got it running.

🔍 Internal Review:

👨‍🏫 They found some bugs, asked us to fix them, and improve our code.

💣 External Review – A Nightmare!

😡 The external reviewer was super strict.
🚨 Some teams were told to redo their entire project!
📢 He was frustrated because many projects had missing functionalities and major bugs.

Final Results: 🎯

✅ Those who cleared PRA 1 or PRA 2 were declared as passed.
⚠️ Others were sent to Technical LAP (extended training).
🕒 The release letter was delayed until the last minute!

🏆 Final Thoughts on ILP – Was It Worth It?

Despite all the stress, pressure, and last-minute rush, ILP was an amazing experience! 🎉

TCS ILP Training Week-1

TCS ILP Training - Trivandrum
I received my joining letter in January after waiting for 5 months. I know it's frustrating, but once I got the joining confirmation, I felt extremely happy. My training location was in Trivandrum, and my work location was Coimbatore. However, Coimbatore wasn't my first preference.
TCS Trivandrum is exclusively for training and is known to be one of the strictest training centers among all the TCS training centers in India.

Induction and Rules

The first two days consist of induction, where you are briefed on the dos and don'ts. For example, taking photos inside the TCS campus is strictly prohibited. If you take photos and share them on social media, you will receive a memo (a warning). During training, you can receive up to 3 memos, but receiving 4 memos can lead to termination. So, be very careful—do not take any photos inside the campus.

People from All Over India

People from all parts of India come to Trivandrum for training, from Delhi to West Bengal, Andhra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and many more. It was fun to connect with people from different regions. Try to make friends and grow your network, as it will be helpful in the future. Everyone is unique, and you can learn a lot from them.

After Induction

After the induction, you will receive your employee ID, email ID, and a list of courses to complete (similar to the Xplore course). You must complete all mandatory courses on time.

Exploring Trivandrum

Trivandrum has many places to visit, and Saturdays and Sundays are holidays, so you can use that time to explore the city. Don't be shy go out with friends explore the city

BizSkill Exam

After 3-4 days, they will conduct the BizSkill exam, which includes reading, speaking, grammar, and reading comprehension. You can find the test pattern on YouTube under "Step+ exam." The test has 10 levels, and you need a score of 5 or above to pass. For me, a level 6 is safe zone. This exam is very important—if you fail, you will be placed in remedial training. After one week, the test will be conducted again. If you fail again, there will be no remedial; instead, you will receive an LAP and an extension in your training period (e.g., if your training period is 1 month, 10 days will be added). Additionally, a memo will be issued, so be careful.

Cheating Policy

Do not cheat in any exam. TCS has a strict zero-tolerance policy for cheating. If you are caught cheating, you will be given two options: resign and leave, or they will terminate your employment. So, always be honest in your exams.

Challenges I Faced in 10 Days

1. Food: The food at the training center isn’t great, so we used to go out to have dinner at night. However, during the day (morning and lunch), you can’t go outside, so you have to eat the canteen food.

2. Water: The fluoride content in the water is high, and you can feel it. It’s better to drink hot water. I recommend bringing a steel water bottle, as the water can contribute to hair fall problems.

3. Cost of Living: Things here are a bit expensive and above average, which isn’t always worth it.
